Zelle® Changes: Send Money Through the SMBT App or Participating Financial Institutions

Zelle’s stand-alone app is going to be decommissioned, but you can still utilize Zelle P2P payments within your SMBT online banking and other financial institution partners.

Starting soon, to send money via Zelle®, you'll need to use the Southern Michigan Bank & Trust (SMBT) app or another financial institution that partners with Zelle®. This change will impact how you send money and access this convenient service, but it won't affect its speed, security, or overall ease of use.

Why Use Zelle®?

Zelle® is a simple and fast way to send money, and it’s trusted by over 100 million people across the country. Here are some of the top reasons why Zelle® is so popular:

  • Convenient
Zelle® is integrated directly into the SMBT app, so there's no need to download a separate app. You can send money directly from the same app you use to manage your other banking transactions.

  • Fast
Money sent via Zelle® typically goes straight into your recipient's account and is available to use within minutes. Whether you're paying back a friend or handling a small transaction, you don't have to wait days for the money to clear.

  • Private
All you need to send money through Zelle® is a U.S. mobile number or an email address. Your account information and transaction history stay private—making Zelle® a secure and easy way to send money without exposing your financial details.

What Do These Changes Mean for You?

With the change to using the SMBT app or other Zelle®-partnered financial institutions, you'll need to make sure your banking institution supports Zelle® for seamless transfers. If you bank with Southern Michigan Bank & Trust, you're already set up to send and receive payments through the Zelle® network with ease. For other financial institutions that don’t yet support Zelle®, it may be worth considering switching to one that does, ensuring you don’t miss out on the ease and speed of Zelle® payments.

A Convenient Way to Stay Connected
