Southern Michigan Bank and Trust (SMB&T) is offering relief efforts for customers directly affected by the partial government shutdown.
“Our thoughts are with those who are currently experiencing unexpected financial stress due to the government shutdown,” said John Castle, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “We are here, and we are prepared to help our customers through this difficult time.”
SMB&T will assist customers who are federal employees, employees who work for government contractors, vendors and other businesses that rely on the government’s workers. The following are potential means of assistance:
- Waive late fees for late payments on consumer and mortgage loans
- Defer loan payments for up to three months for residential mortgages and home equity loans
- Waive checking overdraft fees
- Waive early withdrawal penalties on CD’s
