SOUTHERN MICHIGAN BANCORP, INC. APPOINTS BRIAN MCCONNELL AS BOARD DIRECTOR

Coldwater, Michigan, February 21, 2007: Southern Michigan Bancorp, Inc. (OTCBB: SOMC.OB) today announced the appointment of Brian McConnell to its Board of Directors. “We are very pleased that Mr. McConnell is joining our Board of Directors,” stated John Castle, Chairman and CEO of Southern Michigan Bancorp. He continued, “Brian has extensive business experience and is an active leader in his community. His leadership skills and experience will be invaluable to us as we continue to grow our business.”

Mr. McConnell is President and COO of Burr Oak Tool and Gauge Company located in Sturgis, Michigan. He began his career with Burr Oak Tool and Gauge as a Sales account Executive and was appointed President and COO in January of 2006.

Founded in 1944, Burr Oak Tool & Gauge has remained family owned for over 62 years. Burr Oak Tool provides machinery used in the manufacturing of heat exchangers for the world’s heating, refrigeration and air conditioning industry. Burr Oak Tool also operates a manufacturing facility in China and serves customers both domestically and internationally in 60 countries throughout the world.

Mr. McConnell received his bachelors of arts degree in mechanical engineering from Tri-State University in 1985 and a masters of business of administration from the University of Notre Dame in 1994.

A member and past president of Sturgis Rotary, Mr. McConnell is very active with several organizations in the Sturgis community including the Sturgis Economic Development Corporation and the Glenn Oaks Foundation Board. He is a past president of the Sturgis Chamber of Commerce and a past board member of the Sturgis Neighborhood Program.
